On Location: Bodrum harbor, take a cool dip into the colorful Aegean riviera

In between our stays in Gumusluk and Kas, we spent a morning in the colorful Bodrum harbor. We visited the famous Underwater Archaelogical Museum in a historic castle, strolled along the Aegean waterfront, and ate in a fabulous cafe recommended by the New York Times. Because Bodrum has a reputation of being a wild, Turkish party town, we didn’t expect it to have the beauty it did. I definitely would make a trip back here to stay awhile…

The Turkey processing saga begins…

Just a quick note before I begin posting more images from my summer trip to Turkey. There are a lot of photos to go through – so many that it may be until next summer that I get through them all. Usually I process images in chronological order – I like the story I’m able to tell and enjoy experiencing each moment as it happened, all over again. However, because it may take me several months to get through the images from Istanbul alone, the next several Turkey posts will be out of order as I jump from location to location, pulling out “tastes” to share with you.  I’m really happy with the images I’ve captured and can’t wait to share them all with you.

On Location: Istanbul day one

Our first day in Istanbul started off a little slow. Jetlagged and a bit motion sick from the 12-hour flight, I crashed for the first half of the day. My awakening, however, was timed perfectly with a late-afternoon walk topped off with beautiful light. We stayed at the Empress Zoe in Sultanehmet and were in a perfect location to wander around the side-streets near the Hajia Sophia and Blue Mosque. Come take a walk with me…

The Blue Mosque from the tram road.

People loved to congregate around the Hajia Sophia in the evening – a perfect place to catch up with friends and enjoy a picnic in the grass.

There were lots of food vendors. And lots of smiles. Turkish people are so friendly!

The Blue Mosque – striking and majestic with all of its domes and minarets.

Gardens around the Hajia Sophia.

This corn looked (and smelled) amazing.

Toasted walnuts were very popular.

The fruit selection in Turkey was incredible. My favorite was the fresh watermelon and cherries.

A young boy strides along the brick road outside the Hajia Sophia.

This square was incredibly packed with locals and tourists – a veritable melting pot of fascinating people enjoying these two masterpieces of Ottoman architecture.

Session fun: Kerry and Matt’s garden nuptials in the windy city

I couldn’t have been more honored to have one of my oldest and dearest friend invite me to photograph her wedding. What a fun weekend it was, made all the more special because I grew up playing in the very backyard in which they wed.

Silliness before the ceremony begins.

The beautiful bride in all her retro glory.

Who’s this weirdo?

All smiles. Made my heart so happy.

Let the festivities begin.

Married!

I’ll drink to that.

Garden partying.

Truly one of the most sweet and special weddings I’ve ever attended. I couldn’t be happier for you Kerry and Matt!
